Ridership and passenger tally counters are widely used where accurate counts are required for federal subsidy requests, under Section 5 of the Urban Transit Act. Typically these counters are shipped with a mounting bracket attached, for easy installation to a fare box or elsewhere. Classifications may include Regular, Handicap, Senior Citizen, Student, Transfer, and Zone fares.
